Golf.
The Algarve is Europe's foremost winter golfing destination.Currently there are 30 seperate courses and over 500 widely differing holes to play along the south coast. Lessons are available from professionals on all courses and all are open to visitors. Most of them require a handicap certificate; all insist on a dress code and proper course etiquette. Over 20 of the courses are within a 30 minute drive of Riomar - many of them are championship level. The nearest course is Alto Golf - 5 minutes away, the last course designed by Sir Henry Cotton. The famous Penina course and hotel lie 10 minutes away. It was the first to be built in the Algarve ,and the first by Sir Henry Cotton who lived there for many years. A similar distance away are the new championship courses of Quinta do Morgado and Alamos. Water Parks.
There are two large water parks , great fun for the whole family, within 30 minutes drive. Zoomarine is a superb ocean theme park , the best in southern Europe. Shows and exhibitions feature dolphins, sharks, seals, crocodiles and many other species. The Aquashow water park is home to Europes biggest aquatic roller coaster amongst many other water slides. Water Sports. There is a huge variety of water sport facilities including scuba diving, jet skis, paragliding, speed boats, wind surfing, surfing, sailing plus more. There are also a variety of cruises including dolphin watching and as you would expect, the whole range of sea fishing activities. Riding. Most of the horses used by the riding centres are at least part Lusitano, the famously sure footed Portuguese breed. Lusitanos are hardy, medium sized horses of good temprament. Their sure footedness makes them ideal for riding through soft sandy coastal pinewoods or along stony trails in the hills. Other activities.
