Praia da Rocha is Portimão's holiday suburb - Portimão being the second largest city on the Algarve It was one of the first places in the area to encourage international visitors - the main attraction being its magnificent beach. The most recent major addition to the scene is a superb marina with cafes, bars, restaurants and shops. The boardwalk along the beach front has 16 restaurants that stretch along the sand - designed to look identical in a futuristic fashion. Deceptively, each has its own individual character inside. At night the whole main avenue is buzzing and vibrant. Most of the clubs and bars are open into the small hours.
